Sambalpur, Feb 4: An FIR was lodged at Hirakud police station against senior BJP leader and former minister Jay Narayan Mishra on Wednesday for misbehaving with police here during the visit of Union Minister Uma Bharati to Hirakud Dam.

The case was registered on a complaint lodged by Hirakud PS IIC Tophan Bag. Sources said an altercation ensued between Mishra and Bag when police tried to stop Mishra’s vehicle, which was following Uma Bharati’s vehicle to the dam.

But Mishra insisted on travelling in the convoy and allegdly scuffled with the policemen on duty who wanted to check his vehicle.

However, Sambalpur SP Akhileswar Singh intervened to diffuse the situation and pacified Mishra.

Mishra alleged that the police action in preventing him from travelling in the convoy was intentional.

“Does Burla police not know me? Am I a terrorist? They had no business stopping me,” an angry Mishra told reporters.
