Bhubaneswar, Feb 6: Micro Irrigation Projects under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) is sauntering in Odisha as the interested applicants are not granted approval to start the projects, the work is limited to files of the officials only, sources said.

The Agriculture Secretary has cautioned the departmental officials in this regard and has ordered the officials to ensure quick and proper action for improving the execution of the scheme.

For the development of agricultural and horticultural works the PMKSY is the instrumental scheme.

After the applications are verified the Assistant Directors approved the projects.

But Government’s apathy to the scheme is visible as still only 2,404 cultivators have applied for the projects from 30 districts this year showing the farmers lack of interest amid Government’s negligence in approving the projects.

After instruction from the Government to mobilize the scheme during 2015-16 under Horticultural Department 553 applications are pending, 160 have been turned down, while others are still laying on the officers’ tables, after verification 344 are still on the table for only 670 have reached the higher office for approval, so in all 1,734 projects have been lying on tables far way off from execution as farmers here in all parts of Odisha die for dry weather amid less rainfall and irrigation.

Especially the scheme projects is lagging behind in districts like Angul,Baleswar, Boudh, Bhadrak, Deogarh, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Kendrapara, Koraput, Nuapara, Puri and Samblapur.

The Government has notified to mobilise the works , the Agriculture Department is very concerned about this as Secretary Manoj Ahuja has urged to take quick action in this regard.
