Bhubaneswar, Feb 10: For enhancing skill development in the Odisha, the State Government has decided to partner with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in establishing a hub-spoke model of skill development scheme in the State.
In an executive committee meeting of the Odisha Skill Development Samitee (OSDS) presided over by Development Commissioner-cum-ACS and S, Planning and Coordination Department R Balakrishnan the discussion regarding this took place on Monday.
Balakrishnan said Odisha is the first to take a closer step in this regard in the country. The State Government will fund Rs 398 crore while ADB will donate the remaining Rs 662 crore. Under this project eight ASTI (Advanced Skill Development Training Institutes) will be established which will work as ‘hub’ while 30 ITIs will work as ‘spoke’ as per the ‘hub-spoke’ scheme used by the Central Government for providing good quality skill development training.
The ASTI would be probably set up in Koraput, Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Rourkela where it would first work in a make shift campus and later transferred to their permanent campus.
The Skill Development and Technical Education Department Principal Secretary Laxminarayan Gupta said we are working with ADB authorities and Central Government approval for quickening the project initiative.
A Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be appointed by the OSDS for this project. Until a newly appointed CEO takes chair the Directorate of Employment Director G Rajesh will head as the CEO.
