Rourkela, Mar 17: A cancer detection camp was organized by Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) at the conference hall of sector – 22 hospital on March 11 to mark Cancer Cervix Eradication Day.
The programme was conducted under CSR initiatives of RSP in association with Ispat General Hospital and Sector-22 Employee Federation.
A medical team comprising Dr Pratibha Behera, Senior Deputy Director (Pathology), Dr Sanghamitra Satpathy, Senior Deputy Director (Pathology) and Dr Banasikha Roychoudhary, Senior Consultant (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) were present in the programme. In all 38 persons including 32 women from in around Sector-22 attended the programme.
Pap Smear test of the women was carried out on the occasion free of cost. Persons with other ailments were then referred to IGH for further treatment under the CSR Health initiatives like Project Surabhi, Project Charaka etc.
An awareness programme was also organised. Presentations were made by Dr Roychoudhary and Dr Satpathy on the prevention and cure of cervical and breast cancer which was followed by an interaction session. Emphasis was laid on the need of inoculation of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine as a public health prevention measure.
