Maritime Museum to get 3D hall

Bhubaneswar, April 4: State Maritime Museum at Jobra in Cuttack district – a favourite tourist spot in the State for the last few years – will soon have a sophisticated three dimension hall at a cost of Rs 2 crore to entertain the visitors with a real life feeling of events such as Tsunami, Super cyclone or drowning of Titanic.

The hall is likely to be ready by July first week, Senior Museum officials have said.

According to Director Basudeb Mohapatra, the 3D Hall will provide the tourists sitting inside an interesting experience as natural calamities such as Tsunami, Super Cyclone and Titanic getting drowned will be shown.

The Museum authorities have lined up nearly 12 to 15 topics of 15 to 20 minutes each with effects of smoke, smell and light drizzle environment in the 48 seats hall.

The entry fees will be Rs 60 and the audience will be provided 3D goggles which they will return after watching the show.

Notably, an average 300 visitors come to the museum every day and six shows shall be held, he said.

There are nearly 14 galleries in the museum of which the galleries such as Introduction, Boat Building, Jobra Workshop, Writers, Navigation, Odisha Coast, Boat Shed, Saw Mill, Aquarium and Children Activities galleries draw more visitors.

The State government had decided on March 29 to accord the museum status of tourism spot.

The museum came into being on April 1 in 2013 and tourists number is constantly on the rise to the museum.

In 2014-15, 1,41 , 282, including 44 foreigners, visited the museum followed by 1,50,519 tourists the next year.
