Bhubaneswar: April 25: The state government may consider bringing a new land leasing act to recognise and protect the rights of share croppers across the State.

But, before that, suggestions from land owners and sharecroppers will be taken through Tehsildars. This has been discussed here today in a meeting of inter-ministerial group, said Revenue minister Bijayshree Routray.

“We are proposing to have a Land Leasing Act, which will facilitate the sharecroppers to avail different benefits like crop insurance, compensation in case of crop loss and all other benefits provided by the State government.

Earlier, these benefits were only reaching the land owners,” said Routray. But, it has not yet been decided whether a new act will be formulated or amendments will be made to the existing legislation.
