Bhubaneswar, May 19 : Odisha government Wednesday released the tiger census report in the State which claimed presence of 40 Royal Bengal Tigers and cubs.

The State Government had earlier rejected the tiger Census conducted by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) for the State claiming that there are more tigers than mentioned in the report.

The NCTA had reported 28 tigers based only on the data from the Similipal Tiger Reserve or Similipal National Park while the tigers at Satkosia Tiger Reserve in Angul district and Sunabeda Tiger Reserve under Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary in Nuapada district were not included in the report.

The tiger census begun from February 5 during which trained wildlife staffs of Forest Department were involved.

The survey at Sunabeda Tiger Reserve was not conducted because of Maoists’ presence in that area.
