Suspended IPS officer sent to Choudwar jail; Vigilance applies for two more days remand

Bhubaneswar, July 30: Suspended Odia IPS officer Joydeep Nayak, was produced before the Vigilance Special Court on Saturday after his 3-day remand ended, and has been sent to Choudwar Jail. Nayak was arrested by the Vigilance from Uttar Pradesh on July 24.

As per the reports, the court directed the Government to provide proper healthcare to the suspended IPS officer at the jail. The Vigilance has applied for permission of the court to extend the remand till Monday (August 1).

Joydeep had been arrested in connection for his involvement in the Rs 88 lakh scam that was meant for computer skill development of SC/ST students and self help groups (SHGs) in Odisha while he was serving as IG in Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC). A special team of Vigilance officials had interrogated the suspended IPS officer during the remand.
