New Delhi, Aug 4: As lightning strike results in the death of 56 lives in the state, BJD MP, Rabindra Jena raised the pertaining issue yesterday in the Lok Sabha thus demanding for declaration of Lightning strike as a natural calamity. He also said that the families or the descendants of the ones who have lost their life because of such mishap should be compensated with Rs 10 lakh by the Centre.
The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) states that lightning causes the highest number of deaths among all the other natural disasters in India. In the state of temples, 300 persons are succumbed to death each year by lightning.
