Jhinkiria loot and gang rape case: Two main accused arrested

Cuttack, Aug 4: With the help of the local police, Commissionerate police yesterday nabbed the two main accused, involved in the loot and gang rape of a woman on July 26th night in Jhinkiria village under Sadar police limits.

According to the information by Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora, two main accused named, Ratnakar Das aka Ratna (20) and Gadadhar Das aka Gada (35) are from Nuapada village in Bhadrak district.

On the basis of the information from Ratnakar during interrogation, police later arrested Gadadhar. Some information regarding the involvement of 2-3 others in this case has also been revealed during interrogation and the police will get hold of them as soon as possible, Arora informed.

A mobile phone of the victim was also seized by the police from Ratnakar.

Police said that many cases of dacoity and burglary have been registered against Gadadhar in police stations in Dhamnagar area but no criminal antecedent’s information against Ratnakar has been found yet.

Permission regarding the test identification (TI) parade by the victim would be asked form the court and they would be forwarded to court on Friday, Arora further said.

Notably on July 26, after looting valuables from her house, four miscreants had dragged the women to a secluded place close to the village where they gang raped her. The fateful incident happened in the absence of the victim’s husband. The next day, a complaint had been lodged by the victim with the police.
