Bhubaneswar, Aug 10: Headed by BJD vice president Prasanna Acharya, the BJD’s 12 member inspection team will conduct a spot assessment of Kelo project, Siori Narayan barrage and Arpa-Bhaisajhar projects taken up by Chhattisgarh on Mahanadi River.
Discussions regarding proper approval of Kelo and Arpa projects from the Central Water Commission (CWC) before the work started, the amount of water being supplied to industries and irrigation to farm land as mentioned in the guidelines, will also be held with the engineers and other officials of the water resources department of Chhattisgarh.
Further, the team will ascertain the impact of these projects on Odisha.
Yesterday, after vising Kelo and Arpa projects, Acharya addressed the media persons and alleged that the barrages have been constructing by Chhattisgarh only to supply water to industries. No drinking water projects and irrigation canals have been created as per the plans for the projects.
The Central Water Commission (CWC) has failed to act like a mediator between the two States and the interests of States should be considered during approval of projects.
On the other side, to solve water dispute between the two States, Leader of opposition Narasingh Mishra would submit a memorandum to Governor SC Jamir that would be addressed to President Pranab Mukherjee.
Protesting the barrage construction on Mahanadi River, Bhubaneswar bar association would cease work on August 12.
