Bhubaneswar, Aug 12: Today a retired IAS officer and former Managing Director of Odisha Lift Irrigation Corporation (OLIC), Himanshu Sekhar Samantray, was granted a three-year jail term along with a fine of Rs 20 lakh by the Special Vigilance Court for lending large mass of properties disproportionately to his known sources of income.
The court’s verdict was that if Samantray fails to pay the fine then an additional 20 month of rigorous imprisonment would be levied on him. However, the court freed Samantray’s wife Sandhyarani in connection to the case.
Notably, Vigilance cell had conducted consecutive raids on the office and houses of Samantray in 2008 after he was alleged for amassing properties disproportionate to his known sources of income. At the raid, the anti-corruption wing traced both movable and immovable properties worth Rs 1, 34, 14,514 belonging to him of which property worth Rs 80, 46,133 was found to be disproportionate to his known sources of income during investigation.
