Cuttack, Aug 26: Bhanu Thakur of Chhattisgarh, a student of Sri Sri University at Bidyadharpur near Naraj in Cuttack district along with other students of the University had gone on a ghat on Mahanadi River near Bidyadharpur for bath around noon on Thursday.

However, Bhanu drowned in the river due to the strong current in Mahanadi.

On receiving the information, the fire brigade and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) teams reached the spot and began the search mission to find the body of the student.

As per reports, seven students of Sri Sri University had gone to a ghat on the river to take bath yesterday. Ignoring the warning given by the nearby locals about the strong current in the river, the students still went inside the river. Following which, two students drifted into the high flow of the river water. Few locals jumped into the river and saved one of them. But unfortunately, the other student Bhanu by then was engulfed by the deep waters of the river.

The body of the missing student is yet to be found even after the hard efforts of fire brigade and ODRAF teams.
