Bhubaneswar, Sept 25: Around 23 migrant workers from Odisha who were stranded in neighbouring Telangana due to flash flood were rescued by the district administration today after finally resuming the operation.
Three helicopters of the Indian Air Force (IAF) were pressed into service to rescue the distressed people caught in floods in Telangana’s Medak district on Saturday. However, the helicopters had to suspend operations after two rescue attempts failed owing to heavy rains. As a result, the officials opened the gates thereby evacuating 1.40 lakh cusecs of water to Nizamsagar project after heavy inflows reached Singur project due to incessant rains in Manjeera catchment areas and neighbouring Karnataka and Maharashtra.
District administration officials, local police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the IAF were engaged in the operation. It’s stated that the labourers took shelter at the Edupayala Kanaka Durga Temple of Ghanpur ayacut as rainfall occurred at the site on Friday evening where they were working for construction of a check dam at Edupayala.
