Bus fares in Odisha increased due to hike in diesel price

Bhubaneswar, Oct 17: Under the automatic fare adjustment mechanism, fares of both ordinary and express buses have been increased on Monday. The State government has increased 1 paise per km for ordinary bus and 2 paise per km in case of deluxe and AC deluxe buses.

Commerce and Transport department had been issued a notification prior to this hike in fares. As per the notification, people will have to pay 60 paise per km for ordinary buses and 63 paise per km for express buses. Likewise, for deluxe buses it is now 84 paise per km and for AC deluxe buses, people will pay Rs.1.05 per km.

As per the automatic mechanism, if the diesel price is hiked by Rs 2 per litre, bus fares will also increase by one paise per km in case of ordinary and express buses and two paise per km for deluxe and AC deluxe buses. Similarly, if the diesel price decreased by Rs 2 per litre, bus fares will also cut off by one paise in case of ordinary and express buses and for deluxe and AC deluxe it will be two paise per km.

It may be noted that on Saturday, Rs 2.37 per litre had been hiked in the diesel price.
