Sum Hospital Mishap: Centre forms committee to review fire safety measures in central government hospitals

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar, Nov 2: In connection to the major Sum hospital mishap in Bhubaneswar that took away 29 lives so far, the Central government has constituted a committee for reviewing fire safety measures at various government hospitals and has directed the team to a report submission within 15 days.

On Tuesday, Union Health Minister, JP Nadda presided a meeting to review the fire safety protocols being followed in all government hospitals all over the nation. A tweet related to this by Nadda was seen on Twitter. It said, “The committee has been constituted to review comprehensive guidelines for fire safety and directed to submit its report within 15 days”. The review committee’s chairman is a joint secretary in the Union Health ministry and the team also has various stakeholders from different hospitals in it. It’s stated that Nadda during the meet laid much emphasis on having proper fire escape ways and measured especially in operation theatres and ICUs so that in case of emergencies or any mishap the patients inside the room can be evacuated immediately.

After the mishap occurred, Nadda had made a visit to the hospital and had declared that all those responsible for the incident would be punished.
