Four alleged staff members of the Annapurna Microfinance unit at Chandikhole on Thursday had come to the deceased, identified as Narahari Mallick’s house to get the last installment Rs 800 of the Rs 15,000, the family loaned last year. Mallick and his son paid Rs 700 but were in a short of Rs 100. Mallick asked the officials to pay it on Friday. But the staff didn’t listen to a single word and they wanted the money at the moment. With this the family also took help of the neighbors but non-helped as it was a Thursday and no one lends money on the day as it is said to be a bad omen. Mallick son also requested that on Friday morning the wage he will get from, after paddy harvest, he will pay it directly to them, but they dint listen.

Narahari begged in front of them to give time till Friday morning 10 am but rather the four members of the Finance unit pulled the elderly man to the road and kicked and thrashed him brutally to death on the spot.

Tension busted as irate locals staged roadblocks and surrounded the police vehicle demanding compensation to the family of the deceased. The blocks were removed only after the district admin officials assured about the compensation. A case against the staffs of the Unit has also been raised and two accused have also been arrested with the help of locals and will be forwarded to court. Other accused are still out and the investigation is on to find them, said sources.
