Berhampur, May 17: Since Monday, the WannaCry ransonware has attacked the Berhampur City Hospital’s information management system, as a result destroying the e-medicine services and payment to ASHA workers. The hacker’s demand is USD 300 so as to restore the access to the hospital’s information management system. Also, all crucial data available in the hospital’s email id have also been hacked. Today the hospital authorities are scheduled to lodge a complaint at the Sadar police Station.
In the meantime, the Information and Technology Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera has informed that a technical team has been sent to the Berhampur City Hospital to examine the issue. Further action will be initiated once only the department becomes sure that hospital management system has been attacked by the said virus. Also, a meeting regarding this is scheduled to be conducted today at the State Secretariat.
From the past few days, the WannaCry virus has attacked several countries including India, thus forcing the Central information technology agencies to work day and night. The Crime Branch of Odisha Police had earlier issued an advisory on the virus to government and private organisations in the State on Tuesday.
