New Delhi, Dec 4: The National Democratic Alliance government on Thursday launched a campaign that seeks to make government buildings, public transport, tourist places, international airports and railways stations disabled-friendly.

Finance minister Arun Jaitley unveiled the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan (accessible India campaign) on the International Day of Persons with Disability.

“The central government launched this campaign with an aim to increase participation of people with disability in day-to-day practices. Sugamya Bharat is a right step towards an inclusive society. There have been a number of disabled people who have done exceptionally well in various fields, they are an inspiration for all of us,” said Jaitley.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had to launch the campaign, skipped the event as he left for Tamil Nadu for an aerial survey of flood-battered parts of the state.

Jaitley read out Modi’s message.
