Kolkata, Dec 10: Leading Kathak dancer Pandit Birju Maharaj has been awarded an honorary DLitt by the University of Calcutta.
Birju Maharaj was awarded DLitt (honoris causa) at the convocation for his contribution to classic dance. Bengali poet Joy Goswami was also given a DLitt along with him.
Eminent physicist and fellow of Royal Society T V Ramakrishnan and London-based physician Dr Khalid Hameed were honoured with DSc (honoris causa) during the occasion.
