Mumbai: October 17: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also jumped on Thursday in Maharashtra’s election summer.
Dr. Manmohan Singh gave a befitting reply to the questions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Article 370. He said that the Congress party had voted in support of the bill to repeal Article 370 and our party is not against it.
‘We believe Article 370 is a temporary measure, but if a change has to be brought, it should be with goodwill of the people of J&K. Manner in which it was implemented is what we opposed,” he said.
Referring to the Congress stance on the abrogation of Art. 370 for Jammu & Kashmir, Singh said that the party was “opposed to the high-handed manner in which it was implemented”.
The former Prime Minister said that the BJP government is only trying to blame the opposition and unable to find solution.
Painting a grim picture ahead of the October 21 Maharashtra assembly elections, Singh said that the current slowdown in the country coupled with government apathy has badly hit the Indian economy.
Targeting the Congress over the economy, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said that the country’s public sector banks have seen their worst phase during the tenure of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan. While delivering a lecture at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs in New York on Tuesday, Sitharaman said it was his first duty to revive all public sector banks.
Responding to finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s statement blaming him for the ongoing bank crisis in the country, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday said the “government is obsessed with trying to fix blame on its opponent”. (Input from GNS)
