Noted Writer Pratibha Ray will be conferred with the Padma Bhushan in the Literature and Education category.
Besides six great personalities from Odisha have been selected for the Padma Shri award.
As per Ministry of Home Affairs, para-athlete Pramod Bhagat (Sports), Aditya Prasad Dash (Science and Engineering), Narasingha Prasad Guru (Literature and Education), Shyamamani Devi (Art), and Srimad Baba Balia (Social Work) will get the Padma Shri award.
Guru Prasad Mohapatra (Civil Service) from Odisha will also receive Padma Shri (Posthumously). He has been nominated from Delhi.
Four names have been selected for the Padma Vibhushan award. General Bipin Rawat will be awarded the Padma Vibhushan posthumously. He died in an air crash in December last year. He was the first Chief of Defense Staff of the country at that time.
Apart from this, former Chief Minister of UP Kalyan Singh (Public Affairs) and Gita Press Gorakhpur president Radheshyam Khemka (Literature and Education) have been given Padma Vibhushan posthumously.
Renowned classical vocalist Dr Parbha Atre will be conferred the Padma Vibhushan, the nation’s second highest civilian honour.
The Padma Bhushan will be conferred on Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, SII MD Cyrus Poonawalla and Covaxin maker Bharat Biotech Chairman Krishna Ella, his co-founder wife Suchitra Ella.
Padma Awards – one of the highest civilian Awards of the country, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
The Awards are given in various disciplines/ fields of activities, viz.- art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.
‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.
These awards are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at Rashtrapati Bhawan usually around March/ April every year. This year the President has approved conferment of 128 Padma Awards including 2 duo case (in a duo case, the Award is counted as one). The list comprises 4 Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan and 107 Padma Shri Awards. 34 of the awardees are women and the list also includes 10 persons from the category of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI and 13 Posthumous awardees.
