AQIS Operative Abdur Rehman Gets 7.5 yrs Rigorous Imprisonment

The Patiala House Court in Delhi today sentenced four Al-Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) operatives to 7 years and five months of rigorous imprisonment. The four are Mohd. Asif, Abdul Rehman, Zafar Masood, and Abdul Sami. Of the 4, Abdul Rehman is from Odisha’s Cuttack district.

Earlier on February 10 Court convicted the four under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activity (Prevention) Act and today, it pronounced the quantum of punishment.

Mohd. Asif, a resident of Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh, who was found to be the India head of AQIS, was arrested on December 14’2015. Zafar Masood was also arrested from Sambhal on December 15, 2015.

Mohd Abdul Rehman was nabbed from Cuttack, Odisha on December 16, 2015. “Abdul Sami, a resident of Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) was apprehended from Mewat on January 17, 2016. Rehman was arrested on December 16, 2015, during a joint operation by the special cell of Delhi and Odisha police for allegedly operating an illegal Madrasa in Tangi, close to Cuttack, and radicalising the youths who enrolled there for terrorist activities.

According to police sources, he illegally visited Pakistan and met wanted militants, including Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi and Sajid Mir, who were both involved in the 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attacks.
