Bhubaneswar: June 26: Tragedy struck on Sunday night near Digapahandi in Ganjam district of Odisha as an OSRTC bus and a private bus collided head-on, resulting in the loss of at least 12 lives and leaving several others injured.

Injured passengers of both buses have been shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

Witness a tragic collision between an OSRTC bus en route to Bhubaneswar from Rayagada and a private bus returning from Berhampur. The private bus was carrying a marriage party from Khandadeuli village in the district. The two vehicles collided head-on near Digapahandi in Ganjam District.

Tragic news has emerged that a number of passengers on the private bus suffered fatalities and injuries in the accident. Meanwhile, those traveling on the OSRTC bus have fortunately only sustained minor injuries.

The swift response of Digapahandi Police and fire services personnel resulted in the successful rescue of multiple passengers at the scene. Odisha Government has announced Rs.30,000 for each injured person for treatment.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has conveyed his heartfelt condolences for the unfortunate incident in Ganjam. He has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 3 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for the bereaved families of the 12 individuals who lost their lives in the mishap. The Chief Minister has generously directed free medical care for all those affected by the unfortunate incident.
