Class VII Student Found Dead: Villagers Set Police Van On Fire In Odisha's Angul District

Bhubaneswar: July 28: On Friday, the decomposed body of a child who had been missing since July 22 was discovered hanging from a tree in Subarnapur village, under the jurisdiction of Kiakata police in Angul district. The enraged villagers set fire to a police van, alleging that the investigation was delayed.

A source says that on July 22, Class VII student Sanjeev Biswal, 13, and his mother Basanti Biswal went to visit a relative in the nearby village of Tusur. He got sick while he was there. Sanjeev and his mother went to the Mangala Kothi to sleep because that is what they had always done to get the blessings of the deity. Goddess Mangala is worshipped in a special room called the Mangala Kothi. The next morning, he was found missing.

His family started a desperate search for him. Basanti couldn’t find him anywhere, so on July 24, she went to the Kiakata Police Station to report him missing.

Sanjeev’s decomposing body was discovered today by the locals hanging from a tree in the Barini forest.

Further, the villagers gathered at Barini Square to block the road as word of the story spread. A team from the Kiakata Police Station arrived at the scene to the displeasure of the locals. The police van was set on fire by the enraged villagers as a means of expressing their fury.

The police have in the meantime detained one person based on the claims made by the family members.
