Bhubaneswar: A tigress was successfully translocated from Maharashtra’s Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve to the Similipal Tiger Reserve in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha on Sunday.
A special team from Similipal Tiger Reserve travelled to Maharashtra’s Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve to bring this tigress to the Similipal Tiger Reserve forest.
This translocation of the tigress is part of an effort to increase the tiger population in the Similipal Tiger Reserve.
A week back, a team led by Similipal’s Director, along with veterinary experts and a rapid response team, conducted a mission to Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve and successfully transported the tiger to its new habitat.
Earlier, the Odisha government wrote to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), seeking approval for the translocation of tigers to increase Odisha’s big cat population.
As per the plans, five tigers will be translocated to Odisha- three for Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary in Bargarh district and two for Similipal Tiger Reserve.
