Bhubaneswar: Odisha will be free from dowry. Deputy Chief Minister Parvathy Parida has given instructions in this regard. She said, dowry is not a tradition, not a culture or a personal matter; it is a social disease. Even after 60 years of the enactment of the Dowry Prohibition Act 1961, dowry is still prevelent in the society. She strongly expressed her opinion at the one-day Dowry Prohibition Act 1961 Conference program.
Yesterday, the program was held at the Lok Seva Bhavan Convention Center in coordination with the Women and Child Development Department.
Deputy Chief Minister Smt. Parida attended the event as the chief guest and mentioned that there is a need for a grassroots discussion and debate on this issue under the supervision of the Sub Collectors to make Odisha a dowry-free state. It is the responsibility of the administrative officer to effectively implement the laws intended to protect our citizens. Therefore, as the Sub Collector, the role of the Sib Collector is very important in strictly enforcing this Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 and preventing its misuse. In our Odisha, the Deputy Collectors and Sub-Divisional Magistrates have been declared as Dowry Prohibition Officers.
