Bhubaneswar, Aug 27: A school van driver, identified as Bijay Moharana was arrested by the police on Friday on charges of allegedly attempting rape on a minor girl student of a reputed school in Gangapara area under Chandaka police limits in the capital city.
As per sources, the girl somehow managed to escape when the accused allegedly tried to rape her in the toilet. The girl informed her parents about the incident who later filed a complaint with the police. The police launched an investigation and took the girl to the spot where the incident took place.
Satyabrata Bhoi, Bhubaneswar DCP said that the investigation is going on to find out the circumstances that made the accused commit the crime. Also, spot verification has been initiated. The statements recorded showcase that a rape attempt was made.
Police Commissioner YB Khurania said that all aspects will be investigated and if needed, then they will propose to make the guidelines of the school more rigid.
As per the information from a teacher of the school, the girl’s parents had not informed the school authorities about the incident. The school authorities, who were informed about the incident by the police on Friday evening are fully cooperating with the police in the probe and have submitted the hard disk having the recording of CCTV footage.
