Bhubaneswar: October 23: Abhijit Iyer Mitra today appeared before the House Committee of the Odisha Assembly over his alleged anti-Odisha remarks and blatant breach of Privilege by issuing derogatory remarks on Odisha, Konark Sun Temple and State MLAs.
As decided by the House Committee, Abhijit Iyer Mitra has been asked to file the affidavit and directed to appear before the house committee on November 02. The decision was taken following a meeting of the House Committee chaired by Narasingha Mishra, Leader of Opposition in the Odisha Legislative Assembly, in presence of other members of panel after Iyer deposed before the Committee.
Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra who is heading the panel, said, ‘Abhijit Iyer Mitra admitted to the charges leveled against him and sought an unconditional apology for his ‘stupidity’’.
Mr Mishra further added, ‘the panel will examine the affidavit and then, decide whether to accept his apology or not’.
It is to be noted here, Speaker of Odisha Assembly Pradip Amat had constituted a house committee to probe the alleged derogatory remarks against the State and its culture. The Committee headed by Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra had issued notice to Abhijit to appear before the Panel on October 11 for breach of privilege.
As he failed to appear on the date fixed, panel issued another notice to him to appear on October 23.
