Auto rickshaw drivers resort to 12-hour strike across Odisha today

Bhubaneswar, Mar 22: All Auto rickshaws across Odisha resorted to an All Odisha Auto Chalaka Mahasangha 12-hour strike protesting against government’s decision of hike in fee for registration, insurance and fitness certificate. Conveyance was affected due to this dawn to dusk strike. Around 30,000 vehicles joined the protest here.

The Bhubaneswar Auto Mahasangha staged a dharna at Lower PMG and held a protest meeting. Members of Cuttack association, Chandikhol, Rourkela and other parts of the State joined them. It demanded the Centre and the state to withdraw the fee hike as this hike would severly affect the drivers hard. The memebers added that till now the strike is in progress and will continue unless the demands are met. All members are notified to fully cooperate with emergency services. The Auto drivers had also staged a dharna ahead of the Puri Railway station thus forcing the tourists to walk towards their destination.
