Bhubaneswar: BJD Supremo Naveen Patnaik has announced the name of Alaka Mohanty as the BJD candidate for Brajarajnagar Constituency. Alaka Mohanty is the widow of Kishor Mohanty, a former MLA from Brajrajnagar.
The seat fell vacant following the demise of MLA Kishore Mohanty on December 30.
After the Election Commission Of India announced the date of the By-Election to Brajarajnagar Assembly Seat, Political activities went up in the area. More than one aspirants were there for both BJP & BJD Seat. Finally, Alaka Mohanty, wife of MLA Kishor Mohanty got the ticket to contest the By-Election. She will fight against Radharani Panda of the BJP.
Radharani Panda won from Brajarajnagar Seat by defeating BJD candidate Anup Kumar Sai in 2014. But, in the 2019 election, she lost to BJD’s Kishore Mohanty by a margin of 11,634.
The counting of votes will take place on June 3. The entire election process will be completed by June 5.
