Bhubaneswar: June 17: As declared yesterday, the Youth Wing of ruling BJD revolted to the petrol and diesel price hike decision taken by the Union Government. Today, they have staged demonstrations in front of the collector’s offices in all 30 districts and 2 organisational districts of the state along with a protest in front of Raj Bhawan in the capital city and in front of ADM office in Rourkela, thus demanding the roll back of the increased excise duty, cess and additional excise tax. On Behalf of the BJD activist, a letter will be submitted to the Governor, Dr. S C Jamir advising him to place their demands before the Union government.
Notably, the Indian Oil Corporation’s decision to hike petrol prices marginally by 5 paisa per litre and diesel by Rs. 1.25 on Wednesday led to this protest. The price of petrol and diesel has increased due to the more taxes enforced on it, thus, effecting the price of necessary supplies.
