BJP delegation meets DGP, seeks release of arrested workers

Bhubaneswar, Feb 12: A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday met Director General of Police KB Singh here to demand the immediate release of as many as 13 party workers arrested by the police for their alleged involvement in the assault on a ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) legislator in Paradip.

The delegation also demanded action against two BJD leaders— Cuttack-Barabati MLA Debasis Samantray and Niali MLA Pramod Mallick— as well as Jagatsinghpur SP. Reports said a BJP delegation comprising 10-15 members met the DGP and submitted a memorandum demanding action against the ruling MLAs for creating vandalism in Tirtol Police station and at the IOCL meeting place in Paradip on February 7.

The delegation urged the DGP to conduct a thorough probe into the incidents and take appropriate action against the guilty. It also demanded immediate release of 13 BJP workers, who were arrested by the Tirtol police at the behest of the Niali MLA, are innocent. Besides, it also demanded action against two BJD MLAs and a minister who were involved in breaking the barricades at the IOCL meeting venue.

The delegation also urged the DGP to take action against the Jagatsinghpur SP and suspended him for his gross dereliction of duty in maintaining law and order at the meeting venue. The DGP, in his reply, assured the delegation that the police would take appropriate action against the guilty.

“We are investigating into the allegations of the BJP and will take appropriate action against the guilty in course of our investigation,” he told media persons.
