Bhubaneswar, May 19: State BJP Wednesday slammed the State government for terming several Centrally sponsored schemes as its own and asked it not to mislead the people of the State.

Citing example of the Indira Awas Yojna, State unit vice president Sameer Mohanty told a press conference here that the bulk of funds spent by the State government in their construction were from the funds provided by the Centre as per the promise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide pucca houses to each of those who did not have one.

However, the State Government is trying to project that the over three lakh houses constructed so far in State were from the Central funds, Mohanty said.

He said, the State government has announced to provide ten lakh houses in the State soon while only a little over three lakh have only been constructed.

“The State government’s claim was untruth and misleading,” Mohanty said in the statement.

The BJP leader said, Panchayati Raj Minister Arun Sahoo told the State Assembly in December last year that the government has constructed as many as 3,02,333 houses in 2013-14, 2014-15 and up to December 2015-16 fiscal.

Of these only 56,538 houses were constructed under Biju Pucca ghar scheme and 2,44,795 under Indira Awas Yojna, he added.

Further, the State government earmarked Rs 330 crore for Biju Pucca Ghar construction during 2014-15 while it allotted Rs 700 crore during 2015-16 and 2016-17 financial years. But it admitted on the floor of the House that only Rs 50 crore has been spent in 2015-16 fiscal.
