Chandigarh, March 16: A BSF jawan of the 170 battalion on Sunday was booked for allegedly raping 27-year-old woman, wife of his colleague, at BSF headquarters at Ajnala town, 20 km from here.

The accused has been identified as Surinder Kumar, 40, who belongs to Gurgaon district of Haryana.

Police sources said residential flat of the accused is situated opposite to that of the victim. The accused is married, but lived alone.

On March 7, the victim’s husband had gone out of station for some work for few days.

SHO Jagbir Singh said on March 7 night, when the woman was alone at her residence, the jawan entered the home and raped her after showing a sharp-edged weapon.

After some days, the accused found that action could be taken against him so he went on leave. On Sunday morning, when the victim’s husband returned back, the woman narrated the whole incident to him. Following which her husband lodged a complaint with the police.

Acting on the complaint, a case was registered against the accused under sections 376, 452, 506 of the Indian penal code (IPC) and section 25 of the Arms Act at Ajnala police station, said police sources.

The SHO said the accused is still on leave and not present at his flat. “We are searching for him in surrounding areas, and if need arises, we would send a police team to raid at his native village in Haryana to nab him,” he added.
