Bus fares in Odisha hiked

Bhubaneswar, March 11: State government Thursday  hiked the bus fares under the automatic mechanism following increase in the price of diesel.

While the fares for ordinary and express buses were hiked by 1 paise per kilometre, the passengers of deluxe and AC deluxe buses will have to pay 2 paise more per km, a notification issued by the commerce and transport department said.

With the hike, the ordinary buses fare would be 56 paise per km, while fare for express buses to be 59 paise per km. Similarly, fare for deluxe buses was hiked from 74 paise to 76 paise per km and fare for A/C deluxe buses was hiked from 95 paise to 97 paise per km.

According to the automatic mechanism for revision of bus fares, the price for ordinary and express buses would be hiked by one paise per km if the price of diesel is hiked by Rs 2 per litre. The fare of ordinary and express buses will be reduced by one paise per km if the price of diesel is reduced by Rs 2 per litre.

Similarly, fare for deluxe and AC deluxe buses would be hiked by two paise per km if the price of diesel is increased by Rs 2 per litre. The fare for deluxe and AC deluxe buses would be reduced by two paise per km if the price of diesel is reduced by Rs 2 per litre.
