Puri/Bhubaneswar, Apr 5: Finally, the Nilagiri Motor Employees Association resumed its bus services to places other than Cuttack in the state from today. This was informed by the general secretary of the association. He also said that bus services to Cuttack will be decided at a meeting on Apr 7. He also said that upon the suggestion of IG and SP, the bus services have been resumed to all places from Puri excepting to Cuttack. Transport Minister Ramesh Majhi who had assured of resolving the issue stated that in the Apr 7 meeting, IG (Central range) will chair the same that will be attended by the bus owners of Cuttack and Puri, RTO and members of employees association where efforts will be made to resolve the issue.
The bus services from Puri to other places in the state had been halted following to a torture on a Puri bus staff at the Cuttack bus terminal, few days back. Leading to this, the Nilagiri Motor Employees Association also staged a demonstration.
While in general 300 buses that join the commuters from places to places in the state had been halted, hardly a few OSRTC buses were seen on the road on Tuesday. More than 20 staff were detained by the Puri police on Tuesday following a scuffle between them during the agitation.
