Central Team visits Puri and Khurda to assess the damage

Bhubaneswar: May 13: A nine-member team from centre reached Odisha to assess the damage caused by Cyclone Fani.  Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs Vivek Bharadwaj is leading the team.

The team visited for on-the spot assessment in the affected areas today. Before that, the team had a thorough discussion with Special Relief Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi and SRC briefed the scenario and damaged caused due to Cyclone Fani.

Central Teams comprising senior officials from various departments of both central and state government visited Puri and Khurda today to assess the damage caused by Fani.

The inter-ministerial team led by Vivek Bharadwaj visited Arakhakuda in Krushnaprasad block and Hasinapur village in Brahmagiri of Puri district. The team members discussed with the residents of these areas and made an assessment of the damage.Industries Secretary Sanjeev Chopra and Puri Collector Balwant Singh were also with the team.

The second team was led by Director, Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation (New Delhi), Ajay Kumar visited Jatni municipality in Khurda district.

As reported, Cyclone FANI has claimed 64 lives, uprooted 14 lakh trees, destroyed 1.52 lakh hectare area of agricultural land and damaged over 5 lakh houses.
