Chief Minister’s comprehensive Irrigation Plan for Bargarh District

Bhubaneswar: October 16: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today has announced a major irrigation project for Bijepur area in Bargarh district. Bargarh District is one of the major agricultural districts of the State. Four Mega Lift Irrigation projects namely, Chikili- 2000 ha., Jampali-1320 ha., Tamdei-1400 ha. and Jamudpalli-1200 ha. are under implementation in the Bargarh District with an irrigation capacity of 5920 hectares. Besides, the State Government is soon going to be implemented  another Parvati Giri Mega Lift Irrigation Project in Gaisilet Block of Bargarh District with an irrigation capacity of 1000 hectares.

Announcing the Gangadhar Meher Lift Canal System for Bijepur, the Chief Minister said, “we have decided to implement Bijepur Lift Canal System, which would be the first of its kind with underground pipeline based irrigation system. This project will irrigate a gross command area of about 32,000 hectares including 25,600 hectares in Kharif and 7,000 hectares in Rabi season. The project will cost about Rs.1250 crores.  The project will pump water from Bargarh Main Canal through a 18 Kms long underground rising main pipeline, where from irrigation will be provided through underground pipelines based distribution system with outlets for every four hectares of land.  The project will utilise latest technologies in irrigation and will be developed as a model project for the entire Country.  I am happy to announce that this project will be named as Gangadhar Meher Lift Canal System.”
