CM exhorts CP to adopt zero tolerance towards crime

Bhubaneswar, Jan 15: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has asked the Commissionerate Police to develop zero tolerance towards crime.

Speaking at the eight raising day of twin city Commissionerate Police here on Thursday, Patnaik said the policy of zero tolerance towards crime will help in curbing serious crimes.

He said crime prevention is an important area of concern in urban policing.

Stating that the Commissionerate Police has undertaken a series of sustained preventive measures including formation of resident security committees within the jurisdiction of each police station, the Chief Minister urged the residents of twin city to whole-heartedly participate in these committees and aid the police in checking crime and anti-social activities in their respective neighbourhoods. 

Patnaik asked the Commssionerate and State police to address the issue of organised crime, especially with regard to transport and tender mafia, with utmost seriousness. He urged all police officers to ensure comprehensive investigation of crimes against women, quick arrests and speedy trials which would serve as an effective deterrent to all perpetrators of such crimes. The Chief Minister said senior citizens are a vulnerable section of the society and their care and upkeep is a priority. He asked the Commissionerate police to active senior citizen cells in police stations and regularly hold interactions with senior citizens to address their issues of safety and security.
