Bhubaneswar: The Covid epidemic is back to haunt us again! Fear has risen again after two Covid 19 patients died in Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra on Tuesday.

While Covid cases are on the rise in Hong Kong and Singapore, the fear has spread in India too. Public Health Director Nilakantha Mishra has advised the people with comorbidities such as kidney disease to take care and precautions in crowded places and wear masks. He said that people suffering from multiple diseases have been advised to be careful.

Similarly, if you have a serious illness like kidney disease, wear a mask. The current variant that is spreading is a subvariant of the Omicron. If anyone is diagnosed with it from Odisha, they will be immediately sent for genome sequencing. The Public Health Director said that no guidelines have been issued from the Center in this regard so far.

On the other hand, the Government of India said that it is monitoring the situation. Similarly, the Health Department said that the Covid situation in the country is completely under control. An important meeting was also held regarding the Covid spread in the country.

It is worth mentioning here that, one was a 14-year-old with kidney failure caused by nephrotic syndrome, and the other was a 54-year-old cancer patient, said reports. Both patients had serious comorbidities.

In light of these developments, the expert review meeting concluded that the current COVID-19 situation in India remains under control. As of May 19, 2025, the number of active COVID-19 cases in India stands at 257 — a very low figure considering the country’s large population.
