Cuttack Ravenshaw Hostel Clash Row: 6 students suspended while 10 given warning

Cuttack, Mar 4: In connection to a clash between two hostels of the varsity that had happened on Nov 21, 2016, today the Ravenshaw University authorities issued suspension notice to 6 students along with a warning to 10 others. among the suspended six, three have been handed suspension for 4 years and the other three for 2 years.

Notably, on Nov 21, a clash ensued between the students of New Hostel and Lalitgiri hostel of the Ravenshaw varsity. Following the clash, both the groups had brought complaint against each other. As the number of students involved was very large more time was needed for investigation. The investigation was carried out based on the CCTV footage, evidence collected from other officials and faculty members following which the disciplinary committee submitted the report and as a result, the disciplinary action was initiated against the six students. According to the university sources, the accused students were allowed to approach the executive council of the university to present their defense. This was informed to media by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prakash Chandra Sarangi. However, the suspension decision taken by the authorities have strongly criticized by the students.
