Malkangiri, Oct 12: The death toll due to Japanese Encephalitis mounts to 48 in Malkangiri with the death of three more children on Wednesday at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the district headquarters hospital here.
One of the deceased has been identified as Subham Nayak of Durgaguda village and Rama Madhi of Urmala village , while the identity of another deceased is yet to be established.
Around 61 patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital while five of them are in the ICU, informed the Malkangiri District Collector K Sudarshan Chakravarthy.
On the other side, cooked food is being given to the children and their mothers from 479 anganwadi centres in Kalimela and Korakonda. Along with this, more than 1200 mosquito nets have been distributed to the people so far.
It may be noted that, in Malkangiri the death toll of children due to the disease stood at 45 till Tuesday. However, with the death of three more children, it has risen to 48 on Wednesday.
