DMs to regulate Potato price in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, March 15: Odisha government has asked the district magistrates to regularly monitor the prices and take strict action against hoarders and black marketers of the vegetable.

A meeting of the group of ministers which met here under the chairmanship of Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Dasburma here reviewed the situation in State in the wake of rising potato prices.

It decided to send a team of senior officials to neighbouring West Bengal to study the availability of the tuber there.

The team will comprise officials from Cooperation, FS& CW, and Agriculture departments.

The meeting also decided to send teams to major potato producing state with a view to study potato farming there and replicate them in State to raise potato production.

The meeting discussed the scenario across the country where potato cultivation was impacted due to adverse climate condition.

It decided to expedite construction of 10 cold storages  to stock potatoes.

Notably, six cold storages of the 46 mooted by the State government have been completed in Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Jajpur, Angul and Bhadrak districts.

The OSAM board has initiated tender process for construction of 10 cold storages across the State, officials added.
