Bhubaneswar, Mar 10: Today the Orissa High Court issued a stay order on the Zilla Parishad chairman elections in Malkangiri and Nuapada till further orders. This order was issued following an appeal by a ZP candidate of Malkangiri. His appeal was not to hold elections for ZP chairman post because elections cannot be held in two zones in Malkangiri and in one in Nuapada.

It’s stated that having Maoists threats, elections were not conducted in ZP zone number 7 and 8 of Chitrakonda in Malkangiri. Chitrakonda ZP candidate Tiburam Tangulu said that as polls could not be conducted in two zones of Malkangiri district, he had requested the High Court to direct the State Election Commission to not conduct the ZP chairman election in Malakngiri to which the High Court agreed.

Also in Nuapada, following a high court order, elections were not held in 2-Komna ZP seat.

A district administration official said that they had received an order from the HC to initiate the required steps.
