Bhubaneswar, Aug 31: Yesterday, An Aditya Birla Company named Essel Mining & Industries Limited (EMIL) felicitated six Odiya sport persons who had participated in the recent Rio Olympics. It gave away Rs 15 lakh as a cash award each to two Sprinters, Dutee Chand and Srabani Nanda for their overwhelming participation in the 100 meter and 200 meter race respectively. Four Odia hockey players being a part of India women’s hockey squad in the Olympics, Deep Grace Ekka, Sunita Lakra, Namita Toppo and Lilima Minz were rewarded with cash prize of Rs 10 lakh.
This effort taken up by the EMIL to encourage the people to take up sports as their career option and also to motivate more and more players to reach the Olympics, was much appreciated by the Tourism and culture minister, Askok Panda and former Indian hockey captain and Rajya Sabha member, Dilip Tirkey.
Honored Dutee said that this is a good sign that Odisha industries have taken a step forward to motivate athletes.
The event was also witnessed by EMIL Senior officials, bureaucrats and industry representatives from all over.
