Expert team reached Malkangiri of Odisha as 15 died due to suspected Japanese Encephalitis

Bhubaneswar: September 27: Panic prevails in Malkangiri district of Odisha as 15 children died till date due to suspected Japanese Encephalitis (JE).

District Headquarter Hospital of Malkangiri had sent 31 samples to Regional Medical Research Centre, Bhubaneswar and of these 15 tested positive, said Malkangiri ADMO.

Around 30 infants are currently undergoing treatment and condition of half of them is stated to be critical. Hospital authorities have started taking precautionary measures to stop further growth. Fogging is being done in all the affected areas.

A two member expert team from Berhampur has reached at Malkangiri to take stock of the situation. State government also on Monday sent an expert team to Malkangiri district.
