Nabarangpur, Apr 14: Another revelation of torture to wife has come to fore in Umerkote here. A woman was forcibly held in captivity in her in-laws house, the reason being not been able to conceive and give her in-laws a child. The name of the woman is Parvati Bhadra, a resident of the Bakadaveda village. She has been married since eight years but she somehow could not conceive a child. Irate by this, her in-laws with some locals kept her captive in a room. On being informed, the cops arrived at the area and instructed the family to free Parvati. But the family and also the locals denied to adhere to the cops. Following which, Umerkote PS IIC Birendra Kumar Senapati and ASI Sahadeb Chanda with the help of some women cops tried to rescue Parvati. Angered by this, some irate villagers tried to stop the cops and some of them even attacked them, causing injuries to three police personnel, the IIC was also among the three injured. The police vehicle was vandalised even by the angry mob. The police stated to media that stringent action would be taken against the locals.
