Farmers to wear black badges and hoist black flags atop house to protest farmers’ detention by police during rally yesterday in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Dec 15: Today onwards farmers under the Navnirman Krushak Sanghathan (NKS) will be wearing black badges and also hoist black flags on the top of their houses thus protesting the farmers’ detention and the disturbances created by the police during their rally yesterday. This was informed to media by the advisor of NKS Soumya Ranjan Patnaik.

It’s alleged that yesterday the cops had attempted to foil the ‘Mega Farmers’ Convention’ rally held here and also restricted farmers at various places from entering the capital city. They had detained around 400 farmers from not only entering Bhubaneswar but the rally as well. The cops also seized vehicles at various places at Hanspal square here on NH 16. There was a clash between the cops and the farmers at the railway station at Cuttack after the armed men had detained the farmers forcefully, who were coming from Keonjahr area in Barbil-Puri express. The outraged members of the Sangathan conducted a rail-roko for quite some time at the Station. Farmers at the Bhubaneswar Railway station were also detained by the cops. The Dhenkanal police also held up some members, having on the farmers’ outfit at the local station there while around 20 at Raghunathpur station in Jagatsinghpur, 18 at Jajpur station had been restricted from moving.

To avoid any unwanted situation and maintain law and order here, around 50 platoons of police had been deployed here. Also prohibitory orders had been directed on the procession passing on the National Highway here.
