Jodhpur, Feb 9: The Jodhpur division of the North Western Railways has became the first division to have an advanced Locomotive Simulator. This will prove to be a “milestone” in training budding loco-pilots to meet requirements of modern locomotives, railway officials said. Railway Board member Hemant Kumar commissioned the simulator on Monday by inaugurating the HHP Diesel Locomotive Simulator Training Centre.
This is the first simulator of the total 12 such simulators, which are to be commissioned across the country keeping in mind the need to provide real-time experience to under-trainee locomotive drivers. “This is the most advanced simulator matching with technology and features being adopted in current locomotives in the country. It is based on real-time conditions, which a driver has to face during actual driving of the locomotive on the track,” said the DRM Rahul Goyal.
Though, a simulator has been installed in Hubli, it uses obsolete technology and was installed in 2005. “This simulator will help loco pilots of NWR in better train hauling, safety, punctuality, fuel saving and loco troubleshooting,” Goyal said. The loco pilot will get advantage of real experience and get instructions for troubleshooting from the instructor, who will keep a close watch at the working of loco pilot at the simulator, based on which, a report card of the handling of the locomotive by the trainee pilot will be generated. Key features of this full loco cab replica of diesel locomotive are its 6 degree motion platform part task simulators, 300 km of computer generated track between Mandvariya and Sojat Road, observer station, centralized instructor station etc.
